The construction of regional medical centers is crucial for the well-being and health of the people. It is an effective way to enhance overall regional medical services, reduce patient referrals across regions, and strengthen the development of tiered diagnosis and treatment systems.
The Guizhou Provincial Health Commission insists on high-quality development as its unifying principle and has established a five-level medical service system, thereby firmly securing the health needs of the masses.
In October 2022, the Guizhou branch hospitals of Beijing Jishuitan Hospital and the Shanghai Children"s Medical Center were approved, and on Feb 11, 2023, the Guizhou branch hospital of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine Guizhou was unveiled.

At the same time, the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and the Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University, Zhejiang Provincial People"s Hospital and Bijie First People"s Hospital respectively launched the construction of national regional medical centers in Guian New Area and Bijie city.
Guizhou will consider various factors such as geography, population, and the ability to accommodate hospitals as it seeks to increase efforts to introduce high-level output hospitals nationwide.
The aim is to extend high-quality national medical resources to all cities and prefectures within the province, accelerate the formation of a new regional medical service hub in Guizhou, and minimize trans-regional medical treatments, providing better medical services for the people of the province.
At present, in addition to seven counties and districts building urban medical groups, 81 counties, county-level cities, and districts have initiated the construction of 138 medical communities covering 1,106 township-level health clinics and 201 community health service centers and stations.
In 2022, the CPC Guizhou Provincial Committee and the Guizhou Provincial Government invested 250 million yuan ($36.35 million) in building 50 county-level medical sub-centers throughout the province, driving the development of 221 township-level health clinics in a network format and serving 4.57 million rural residents.
In 2023, Guizhou will invest another 250 million yuan to build 50 county-level medical sub-centers.
