不能按照英文的字面意思来直译，

不然句子翻译出来

今天举的例子就是：

ten to one

“ten to one”从表面上来看

是10到1

但它正确的意思是：

ten to one = something very likely

可以翻译成“很有可能”

或是“十有八九”

例：

①Ten to one the teacher made a mistake.

很可能老师犯了一个错误。

②No one knows for sure how they"re going to deal with this problem, but ten to one it"s I who have to be responsible.

没有人确定他们将如何处理这个问题，但很有可能我会对此负责。

而 from one to ten 才是“从一到十”的意思！

count to ten

count to ten字面意思是“数到十”，

不过当你很生气的时候，

老外说“count to ten”，是希望你：

花点时间冷静下来

（类似于我们常说的“深呼吸，冷静一下”）

下面是这个俚语的英文解释：

To take a moment to calm down, especially when angry, before doing anything rash or hasty. Used as an imperative, it can but doesn"t necessarily mean to literally count to the number ten.

在做任何轻率或仓促的事情之前，花一点时间使自己冷静下来，尤其是在生气时。一般使用时都有命令的口气，它可以但不一定意味着字面上的数到十。

类似于中文说做什么有风险的事情之前要三思，并不是真的要去思考三次，就是指要认真思考，反复思考再做决定。

take ten 不是 “拿十个”

当他讲了一些内容，告一段落之后

对大家说：

“All right, fellas, take ten.”

怎么感觉不太对呢?

这里的take ten其实是“休息一下”的意思

和它类似的还有take five

If someone tells you to take five or to take ten, they are telling you to have a five- or ten-minute break from what you are doing.

如果有人和你说take five或take ten，他们的意思就是告诉你从正在做的事情中间休息5或者10分钟。

例：

The players took ten during the long rehearsal.
